HEADLINE SET Dj Brooklyn aka Lady Luke aka Brooke Would - LA- TheFunkyKind.com Leader and Founder
Funk is subjective. Everyone has a different idea of what the word means but most agree it's a good orbit to be in. To Brooke Would, if it's going to be good, it's got to be funky...
Brooke's love of dance music began in the mid 1990s, when her nomadic nature landed her in the middle of Boise, Idaho's burgeoning rave scene. A Southerner at heart, Brooke has always been drawn to funk and soul music. In the sea of late 90s trance anthems, she started to miss house music. In 1998 she began buying records, genuinely curious if the music that moved her was still being produced. Soon she had a collection that turned into a gig. Since her first gig in 2000 she has captained the decks on hundreds of occasions with great success. Brooke has appeared from Idaho to Arizona and all states west, spinning at concerts, competitions, clubs, festivals, and raves... some with thousands in attendance, and alongside legendary performers and musicians. Whether she is headlining a festival or opening at a local club she is always mindful of the setting, and can be counted on to lay down a set to be remembered.
Over her decade behind the decks she kept her hand steady and stuck with the music that moved her. That simple dedication crafted a signature sound, something she lovingly calls sexy tech thump. A blend of house, techno, and broken beats that encompasses a wide spectrum of music and encourages spontaneous movement in strangers.
In a move designed to align her job and her love she went to Arizona to study audio engineering in 2005. For the last four years she has been working in studios around Los Angeles, supplementing her ever expanding skill set as an audio engineer. Brooke channels a lot of her creative energy into her label and music blog thefunkykind.com. Using it as a platform to advance herself and her friends by focusing on good music has been advantageous. Proof that quality not quantity is what people want in the way of content each new post on TFK draws in thousands of visitors regardless of the subject. Brooke aims to establish The Funky Kind as a tech-household name, and a spring board for her own journey as a producer.
Dj Poly-Techno,Techhouse-(Process/Kindred Connections)-Boise, Idaho
Poly became involved in the Boise dance scene in the early 90’s when a chance encounter put him in contact with Ishy K (aka Mike Balance), who would occasionally Dj at a local coffee shop called the “Dream Walker.” Through Mike, Poly was introduced to Jesse Reynard, who happened to be one of the only people at the time that owned a mixer, a pair of 1200’s, and was nice enough to let someone he barely knew use them both as well as some of his records. Later that same year, he bought a pair of belt-driven turntables from a local thrift shop and began practicing matching beats on his own. Poly became involved with a couple of Californian transplants who brought with them the knowledge of throwing warehouse parties. Forming Kindred Connections, they searched the valley for any local Dj’s.
Poly was given his first opportunity to Dj at Avatar (Boise’s second warehouse party). He immediately fell in love with the mixing, the music, and the people. Since these early beginnings, Poly has had the opportunity to play at some of Boise’s most memorable parties; such as Zoinks!, Fantasy Acres, Boogeyman etc. and has played his progressive style with the likes of Dj Dan, Mike Balance, Christopher Lawrence, Dano, and Dylan Rhymes, just to name a few.
Taking a few years off in order to pursue a college education, he was never able to shake the Djing addiction. With his education behind him now, he has chosen to re-pursue his true passion. With a new found love for techno, techhouse, and minimal, his well constructed sets are sure to help make any party a memorable experience.
Dj Jeremiah - Boise Id- Electro Wobble Thump
Over the past several years, Jeremiah has become one of Idaho’s top notch House and Electro DJs. He’s juggled quite a few residencies in some of Boise’s best night clubs, in addition to performing at many raves and one-offs in the area. Jeremiah was introduced to the underground dance scene in ‘98 and it didn’t take long for him to know that he had to be a part of it. He immediately fit right in to the local DJ scene and quickly mastered the 1’s and 2’s of the game. With and arsenal of heavy hitting music and a fun, party spirit, he’ll be sure to rock the spot and leave everyone wanting more!
Aaron Liven-Electro/Funk/Fidget/Bassline-Boise / http://fullfrontalassault.net/
Aaron Liven has lived and breathed electronic music from the moment he was first exposed to it at the first Freak Night Halloween party in Seattle, WA in 1997. No other form of music had ever appealed to him so much, he was instantly hooked. He found the ability of the DJ to bring a crowd up, and take them back down, to change the emotion in a room fascinating, and wanted to be part of it. After many years of attending electronic music events, he finally purchased a pair of Technics MK2s and a mixer in 2005.
Aaron has quickly grown from mixing the Trance music he had always loved to mixing close to all genres of electronic and dance music. His current tastes reside in a wide variety of House music, particularly bass-heavy Electro, Fidget house, Bassline, plus Nu-Rave. He maintains, “A good track is a good track, regardless of genre”. He has embraced the freedom of the digital age of mixing and uses his equipment to the fullest extent possible, adding to his sets with attention-grabbing effects and samples. His style has morphed into a blend of heaving pulsating bass lines and grinding electro noises, with splashes of funk, hip-hop, and nearly everything else imaginable throughout.
Dj Myko - Boise Id
Growing up on the California coast DJ Myko was right in the middle of the party scene that was developing in the 90's. Myko became fanatical about playing house music when he bought his first turntables and mixer in 98. Fascinated with the samples used to create the songs he was listening to and hooked by the bass Myko started searching out the best record shops in California. Myko moved to Idaho with family in 99 but did not stay long. Back to Cali and back into the scene Myko choose San Francisco to live for a few years while attending school and perfecting his mixing technique. Over ten years later Myko has played underground raves and house parties from San Diego to San Francisco alongside world class DJ's. Currently Myko enjoys a residency at Catacomb Nightclub in downtown Boise.
