On another note, tier two tickets are almost TOTALLY sold out. I'm sure EVERYONE on here already has 'em, but you should all remind your friends if they don't. We want all our friends to be able to attend on the cheap, yo!

The first line of your message on the flyer makes reference to Community Based-- looks like a lot of out of state people. What is your meaning or reference point of community based?

We mean precisely what we say we mean. Esthetic is a massive collaboration put on by promoters living in four separate states and bringing together our long time friends and community members from across the country. Our definition of community encompasses everyone we love dearly from the oldschool Boise scene, along with all the younger Boise kids we don't know, and of course everyone we've met and collaborated with in the larger underground dance music world over the last ten years. It also encompasses all the people we have yet to meet but are joining us this year precisely because they've heard so much about our community focus. That's a lot of folks!

It's true that we have a lot of out of state people involved, but we feel it's because our event has grown from it's home-grown roots into a Northwest and even West Coast festival. Several of our DJs are either former Boise residents or long-time favorites with deep connections to the Idaho scene. The rest we book to represent the many interests and locations of our attendees, who this year are coming from places as diverse as Idaho, Utah, Washington, Oregon, California, Hawaii, Colorado, Montana, Minnesota, Vermont, Texas, New Hampshire and Indiana (and this is before any tier three ticket sales). We also shoot for bringing artists we know are accomplished performers, are reasonably priced and -most importantly- will fit in with the overall vibe and musical progression of our event. This means we often over-represent places like Seattle, Portland and Salt Lake City. Half of the Esthetic promoters live in those cities, get to hear these performers and can judge who is the best fit for our event. It's also cheaper to bring in regional performers than a bunch of headliners. This helps keep Esthetic costs down while similar events cost around $60 or $75 for the weekend. Lastly, many of these performers are our close friends, musical collaborators and long-time Esthetic community members. Of course we want to bring them out.

More importantly, we feel like we have deep connections to the Boise electronic music community. We have ten Boise performers on our official lineup. Some are Boise veterans, others are up-and-coming DJs and producers. All of them are vibrant and supportive parts of the Boise EDM scene and of art and music in general. We have several paid staff people this year, along with literally dozens of volunteer all contributing to making Esthetic a truly collaborative celebration of the Boise community. We also have as many as twenty more Boise DJs playing on sound camps throughout the weekend. These people are putting their time, energy, money and passion into playing music for their friends at one of their favorite events. They are being joined by DJs from as far away as Los Angeles who are driving 18+ hours, bringing their own gear, setting up sound camps and even buying tickets to Esthetic just to have a chance to contribute to the community and vibe in their own not so little way.

Finally, there is the Esthetic community as a pr0cess. We all firmly believe that community isn't something that's just there or happens. It's something that has to be created and nurtured. One of our favorite things about doing this event over the last several years has been seeing people transform themselves from event attendees to event participants and creators, true community members. We love the kids who come up early to help setup or stay late to pickup trash (although you should all remember that we are a leave-no-trace event). We love the folks who bring the lawnmower every year and loan it to their friends. We love the Boise people bringing pool tables and bouncy castles. We love the Seattle and Portland people who bring trunks of costumes and give them away to Boise kids they've never met before. We even love the dude who shows up on Friday looking like a total thug and leaves the event somehow feeling like a more loving and tolerant person. To us, these things are the core of our community.

Anyway, sorry about such a long and rambling response. This is just a very important and passionate subject for all of us. It is precisely why we keep doing what we're doing.

A big WHOO HOO for the Esthetic Evolution community! Crossing borders, being neighborly, sharing and building friendship. Each year I love seeing friends, lovers, and strangers come together as a community. Catching a glimpse of the person that comes alone and immediately gets help setting up their tent from a total stranger out of pure kindness and community awareness always warms my heart.

I may forget the sugar, but no worries because one of our community members won't mind if I come use some for my coffee. And, if you need to use my fix-a-flat to get into town for tire repairs then it's all yours. I love the EE community!
