Calling all DJs

Sorry Hoy... that was really nice what you just said. For a second I thought you were saying if I could bring it, they would have booked me. Lost in translation. You actually never said anything at all about Mario.. so no hard feelings. Hope to have a beer sometime. Just throwing out opinions and ideas. I think everyone has made a great point so far on this thread.

@ T. Beck. I totally agree. Sometimes, people have kids and need babysitters, have money problems, only so many vaction days if they work weekends. Shoot... it could depend on whether it's rent day... lol. If they get the feeling that they can see a DJ play in town on a regular basis, then they tend to "wait til' next time". I do however see Hoy's P.O.V. too. Is there a happy medium? LOL.. the scene is so wierd!

As a promoter, I try to have a couple (or four) residents, and try to bring in somebody good that hasn't been around in a while, but brings it! Local or out of town. That's why my hats off to Manic Mondays. Very diverse, for such a talented pool of local DJ's (like Dave pointed out).

Spread the love! Also, it is a good way to find out who is genuine, who draws, and who is fakin' the funk, etc.
Sometimes, you think a DJ will be a draw, but they get all lame over the most insignificant details. I just booked a DJ, and expected him to be a big draw, but he didn't like the flyer (which everyone else loved) and didn't put it up. He didn't promote well, showed up late for his set, didn't say boo to me all night... I was shocked. I paid him out in advance, and did the professional thing... but, I still got the finger. He'll NEVER play for me again, but at least I know now. He even asked me about future bookings on the way out... pffft!

It's hit or miss, pass or fail.. sometimes you get the PERFECT recipe, and the stars allign, and you try it again six months later, and it tanks. I guess there is no right or wrong... just perseverence. Although, if I am charging, I always pay out. Even if it's $30 and free drinks. Even if I end up losing.. that's just right.
Maybe that's why I stareted throwing FREE parties.. If you don't like it... Peace... lol. Someone else will play.. hahaha.. But, that only seems to be cool if you aren't charging. ; )
